12.  Te Tara o te Ika a Maui

 

 NZ Basalt with steel plinth

 

Approx. 1800 x 900 x 200mm

 

This work looks out on to Coromandel Peninsula other wise known as Te Tara o Te Ika a Maui, the barb of the fish of Maui. In Maori mythology Maui fished up the North Island which is seen as a great sting ray. The head is at Wellington , the tail to the north and the barb of the ray is Coromandel.
